The Greenwood Cemetery Records published by the local genealogical society, another book called the "Reconstructed Records," and the probate records at the Fulton County Courthouse contain different and contradictory information. There is no obituary. A very kind and dedicated librarian at the local public library drove out to Greenwood Cemetery and checked the date on the actual tombstone. The tombstone says that Henry Hipple died 4 May 1863, in his 81st year. This information is consistent with the probate file, but neither of the other sources. I hope this helps those concerned. ... (John Cramer is my 1st cousin). We recently visited Chester Co. to see if we could find additional information on the Pikeland and East Vincent Hipple's. It sounds like the Lawrence that you are referring to -- Pikeland Township -- is the son of Henry and grandson of Jacob. Lawrence was named in Jacob's (his grandfather's) will. In addition, after Jacob and Henry's deaths (both in 1772), Lawrence became a landholder. I suspect that he inherited the land. However, it is difficult to determine because the land was not owned but held as tenants. So - land ownership records do not exist in the Hipple name. I have a copy of Jacob's will, inventory and estate papers which mention Lawrence. In addition, I have copies of maps which indicate the location of the land held by Henry and Lawrence Hipple a few years after 1772. The only problem that I see is ..... I do not show a daughter named Katherine for Lawrence. This line of the Hipple family (Henry) has been extensively researched by at least two descendants of which I am aware. I have copies of their research. I know that the Hipple's were involved with St. Peters Church, which is located on the border of East Pikeland and West Pikeland Townships. I visited the cemetery and found several Hipple graves. In addition, I found evidence of the Hipple family in the church records. The problem is that the church (actually three churches Upper, Lower and Middle) records for the time period of Jacob are not available. Henry owned the land adjacent to the church and sold it to them. Some of the church records for later years are available. I have a copy of the index (alphabetical) for the later years. The only other church in Pikeland Township where I have found records of Hipple's during that time period is Zion's Lutheran. It is located on the border of Pikeland and East Vincent Twp. The congregation from this church became so large that it split into three congregations ... East Vincent Reformed, St. Peters and Zion' Lutheran. There are Hipple's buried in Zion Lutheran cemetery. In addition, I believe we obtained copies of the birth / death records for Zion's. I will have to look and see if a Lawrence Hipple appears in the records for 1821. We kept a log for all cemeteries that we visited for all Hipple stones that we located. My sister has the list and I will have to check with her. One more item ... I recall photocopying numerous obituaries /newspaper articles from the Chester Co. Historical Society .. . including many by the name of Lawrence. There were numerous articles concerning the estate, orphans court notice, and sale of real and personal property for Lawrence Hipple in 1821 and 1822. This is probably related to your Lawrence if he died in 1821. I've attached a copy of the Hipple line which resided in Pikeland Township below. If this is not your line, I've recorded a lot of information for the other lines (i.e. East Vincent Twp.) -- I can send those to you if you need them. Based on my research, it appears that the Pikeland line was separate from the East Vincent Twp. Hipple line. However, it is likely they are 1st cousins. My line is through Jacob's son John (i.e. Jacob, John, John, William, Henry, Stanford, Shirley). Based on the information that you provided, you may be related to Jacob through his son Henry. These are the only Hipple's that I know of that were in Pikeland at that time. I have a lot of information on Hipple's which I have catalogued in an index. If you would like a copy, please send me a note. You will need to be able to unzip a file. I can send the files in MS WORD , MS Works or another word processing program. I just need to know what program you use. I hope this information is helpful. I am still working on putting the pieces together.
